Texas-based Virtual Gaming Technologies, LLC is suing a number of game publishers over patents it holds relating to fantasy sports and, more specifically, realtime reports of sports information in games.
According to a GamesIndustry.biz report, the company has gone after EA, Activision, Zynga, Take-Two, and Konami in recent weeks.
In a story on the suit specifically against Activision, Polgyon reports that Virtual Gaming Technologies alleges that its patents of "real-time interaction systems" which report up-to-the-moment data on player performance are being violated.
The company appears to be targeting large companies which have released sports or driving titles: GamesIndustry.biz reports that EA's Madden, FIFA, and NHL games, Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 2015, and Activision's NASCAR The Game: Inside Line are all specifically named by Virtual Gaming Technologies, among other titles.
An interesting detail: The company was first established in Texas on September 24, and began to file suits just days after acquiring the rights to the patents in question. It has also filed lawsuits against fantasy sports services DraftKings, FanDuel, and DraftDay Gaming Group, GamesIndustry.biz reports.
