Over 500K Register For The Secret World Beta

Age of Conan developer Funcom has revealed that over half a million people have registered to take part in the upcoming beta for MMO The Secret World, due to be released early next year.
Age of Conan developer Funcom has revealed that over half a million people have registered to take part in the upcoming beta for MMO The Secret World. The Norwegian developer first officially announced The Secret World back in 2007, and revealed earlier this year that it will be co-published with Electronic Arts through the EA Partners Program. The game is due to be released in April 2012 for Windows PC after an open beta period. Beta sign-ups began in August. Funcom CEO Trond Arne Aas said of the news, "We are thrilled to see the amount of interest The Secret World is generating among gamers and the press, and exceeding half a million beta registrations six months before release is definitely something we are proud of." He continued, "The gamer interest in The Secret World and the community size for the game is even greater than we experienced with Age of Conan at the same stage of development. We expect the community size to keep on expanding at an ever faster pace in the coming months as we approach Open Beta and launch. Back in 2009, Funcom was forced to delay development of the game by several months, while also laying off 20 percent of its workforce.
