Back in January Razer lifted the lid on its highly customizable "Hacker Dev Kit" VR headset and OSVR (Open-Source Virtual Reality) platform, both designed "to set an open standard for virtual reality input devices."
Now the company has revealed that the consumer version of its headset, the HDK v1.3, will be available for pre-order on October 1, and that its OSVR content discovery platform has launched and can be accessed right away.
Razer has made a number of improvements to the headset, which will retail for $299.99 when it ships in October, adding a new optics module that expands the eyebox to allow for sharper images and incorporating individual eye focus to enable personalized use without glasses.
A new specialized 5.5” full HD OLED 120hz silver screen has also been fitted to ensure images are clearer and brighter.
Additional software updates to the OSVR platform will allow for "optimal low-latency rendering on any OSVR-supported device", while the platform will now support Nvidia's Gameworks VR technology.
Razer rounded off its big news day by revealing that 65 new companies have joined its OSVR network - bringing the total number of supporters to 230.
