Obituary: Video game lawyer and VGBA co-founder David Rosenbaum

Rosenbaum represented publishers and developers from around the world, and helped establish the Video Game Bar Association.

David Rosenbaum, a veteran games industry lawyer and legal expert, has passed away at the age of 62.

After entering private practice during the '90s, Rosenbaum quickly built up a reputation within the games industry by representing leading publishers and developers around the world.

He co-founded and led the Video Game Bar Association, and was keen to share his knowledge with others by lecturing at various game events and conferences.

From 2007 to 2011 he also taught video game law at the Southwestern Law School, and had recently joined the Interactive Entertainment Law Group as a partner.

"We started the Video Game Bar Association together a few years back. It is a testament to his character that he was so beloved and respected by his peers in the industry," wrote Rosenbaum's friend and colleague, Patrick Sweeney.

"The VGBA was one of his more passionate endeavors and it owes its success and growth to his hard work in promoting it. Earlier this year, David joined IE Law Group and his enthusiasm was palpable. We had talked about working together for years and I’m so grateful we had that chance, albeit for far too short of a time.

"Our condolences go out to his family and friends. The video game industry as a whole is a darker place without David."
