Future Publishing has announced the shortlists of nominees for the 2011 Golden Joystick Awards, including new categories dedicated to downloadable, mobile and free-to-play games. Games up for the awards' top "Ultimate Game of the Year" prize include popular titles from last year's holiday season, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops and Halo: Reach, as well as more recent releases such as LA Noire, Portal 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. In a first for the awards, this year's nominees were chosen by a group of editors from Future's game-focused magazines, including PC Gamer, NGamer, OXM and OPM, and GamesMaster Public voting on all nominees will be open at the Golden Joystick web site through October 14, before winners are announced at an October 21 ceremony at London’s Westminster Bridge Park Plaza. Last year's awards received 1.5 million votes Now in its 29th year, the Golden Joystick Awards are being sponsored this time around by gaming PC maker Alienware.
