Nintendo Wii U to receive 'quick start' boot-up this summer

Nintendo knows that one of the largest barriers between users and play for its Wii U is the lengthy loading times of the console -- so the company plans to launch a system update this summer to cut loading times in half. Although Nintendo has previously reduced the loading times on the console, this time around it's looking to cut down on the number of button presses required to boot up a game, via a new Quick Start menu. As demonstrated in the above video, users will be able to load a software title without having to visit the main Wii U menu. With this functionality, Nintendo says that the time between picking up your GamePad and seeing the title screen of a game will be cut by around half. "The quick start menu uses the same mechanism as the TV Button," explained Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, adding, "it will also lead to more Wii U users understanding the appealing nature of the GamePad."
