The Strong Museum of Play has announced the 2016 finalists for its World Video Game Hall of Fame, and the slate once again represents some of the most popular and influential games that have hit platforms ranging from arcade to PC, console, and handheld in the last 40 years.

The oldest finalist is German racing game Nürburgring, released in 1975; the newest is Minecraft, which has sold in the tens of millions and is so significant that Microsoft acquired the game and its creator, Mojang, for $2.5 billion.

The museum inducted six games last year, in the inaugural set; the next set of selections will be announced on May 5. This year's list of finalists was assembled using (in part) public nominations.
