LeapFrog announces LeapTV, a new console for young kids

The LeapTV will offer cartridge and download games, motion and traditional controls, and sell for $150 this fall.
Today, children's gadget and tablet company LeapFrog has announced the LeapTV, a new game console offering motion and traditional control in a package designed for 3 to 8 year old kids. The new console will be released later this year and cost $150.00. Games will be sold on cartridges and via download, with download game prices starting at $5 and cartridges priced at $30. The new system includes a camera and a transforming controller which can function as a traditional game pad or a Wii Remote-like "wand." No details on LeapTV's operating system or developer programs were announced. All games created for the system must be approved by LeapFrog, however. "Within the last few years, we've heard more and more kids talking about how they want their own console gaming experience. They see their older brothers and sisters playing consoles and they try to play, but these consoles aren't designed for them," LeapFrog's David Perkinson told Polygon. For more information, visit the LeapTV's official site. The company also maintains a general-purpose developer site. You can sign up here.
