Epic Games has released the latest version of its free Unreal Development Kit Beta, adding Mac support for the first time. The September 2011 version of the award-winning UDK tool set now features support for Mac OS, with functionality in place for "easy cross-platform distribution," according to an Epic Games statement. "UDK games can now run on Mac OS," said the company. "Every UDK game's potential user base has increased dramatically yet again." The UDK now also includes a preview of the Mac OS support available to users. "The development process is virtually identical for games to be run on the Mac platform, but the packaging and deployment process does require some additional steps," the statement noted. The last version of the UDK Beta, released in August, added a number of new features including a movie capturing suite, adaptive tessellation, material functions and more. As of last month, the UDK had been downloaded and installed over 900,000 times in total.
