UK studio Kuju
has launched a startup-oriented funding effort via Seedrs, a UK-based equity crowdfunding site. The fund seeks £300,000 ($509,415) in investment from everyday backers and plans to dispense that money to a "portfolio" of mobile, tablet, and PC game startups in the UK.
"Studios in the portfolio will have the full support of Kuju, and our creative and business development teams," its official site
says. Kuju has not said how much each individual studio might be granted.
Kuju currently operates two studios: Zoe Mode and Headstrong Games, which have developed games in the
Zumba and Nintendo's
Art Academy franchises, respectively.
The company says it will both vet and mentor the studio startups selected for investment, and has formed an advisory board primarily from its business and studio leadership for these purposes. It hopes to attract everyday investors to the fund by giving them a chance to "influence the design and development" and get early access to the games, among other perks.
