Japanese devs love Splatoon, Game of the Year survey reveals

4Gamer surveyed a pile of Japanese devs and found out what their game of the year is -- and the results show Nintendo winning. Find out who liked what.

Japanese website 4Gamer surveyed 133 game industry members -- primarily game developers -- to find out what their favorite 2015 game was. The list, translated by DualShockers, offers an interesting peek at what the industry liked best.

While there's a lot of variety in the picks, the overall winner is Nintendo's Splatoon, which earned 24 total votes. Super Mario Maker and Bloodborne tied for second place, with eight votes each.

More interesting, perhaps, is picking out the faves of notable developers. Yoshinori Ono, executive producer of the Street Fighter franchise at Capcom, picked Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, as did the director of Square Enix's Final Fantasy XV, Hajime Tabata. President and CEO of Puzzle & Dragons developer GungHo, Kazuki Morishita, picked Splatoon, as did former Capcom R&D head and Mighty No. 9 developer Keiji Inafune. CyberConnect2 head Hiroshi Matsuyama selected Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Then there were the outliers: Ico creator Fumito Ueda, who's still working on The Last Guardian, called out Dying Light, while Goichi "SUDA51" Suda, meanwhile, liked Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number best. Sony's head of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, stumped for downloadable hit Rocket League
