iOS overtakes Windows, globally, in 2015

A new chart from anlayst Horace Dediu shows that we're at an inflection point -- where shipments of devices running Apple's mobile OS overtake those of Windows PCs for the first time.

Newsbrief: Analyst Horace Dediu, who runs market research firm Asymco, noted today on Twitter that shipments of iOS devices overtook Windows PCs for the first time ever last year.

This is notable as it shows the strength of Apple's ecosystem, and is another notable milestone in the overall shift toward smartphones. Research by IDC published today noted that PC shipments were down over 10 percent year-on-year in 2015.

Of course, many more devices are shipped with Android as their OS, which Dediu's data doesn't illustrate. It's simple food for thought on the shifting market.
