Investors sink $25M into mobile eSports platform Skillz

Skillz has hosted over 100 million mobile tournaments over the past six years, and currently hosts over 500,000 tournaments each and every day.

Investors have poured $25 million into mobile eSports platform Skillz, with telecommunications companies Telstra and Liberty global leading the Series C funding round.

Skillz was founded back in 2012, and works with developers to integrate its eSports platform into their games.

It has hosted over 100 million mobile tournaments over the past six years, and currently hosts over 500,000 tournaments each and every day.

The company has seen revenues grow off the back of that performance, and earlier this year revealed it had crossed the $100 million revenue run-rate threshold.

"This year, the top eSport event had more viewers than game seven of the MLB World Series," said Bruce Dines, VP at investor Liberty Global Ventures.

"It is important for Liberty Global to progressively support new forms of entertainment and content. We're excited to be a part of the eSports growth story."
