Newsbrief: The 27th annual Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) kicks off next month, and this year the screening list includes a 3D animated Pikmin film produced by game industry veteran Shigeru Miyamoto. According to a press release published by TIFF, the film ("Pikmin Short Movies") is the result of Nintendo's efforts to flesh out and expand the characters in its Pikmin franchise of games. It's also, to our knowledge, the first time that Miyamoto has been credited with film production work. The film will be shown at Toho Cinemas in the Nihonbashi district of Tokyo on October 25th, and Miyamoto is expected to take the stage alongside Dwango chairman (and Studio Ghibli "producer-in-training") Nobuo Kawakami afterwards for a brief Q&A with the audience. For more information on the screening, check out the TIFF website.
