Social game developer Funzio (Modern War, Crime City) was acquired by Japan's Gree on Tuesday. Gree's complete $210 million buyout covers the entirety of the company, as well as its existing titles, including Modern War, Crime City and Kingdom Age. It is unknown at this time if Gree will continue operating these games on Facebook in addition to their mobile counterparts. Gree says that Funzio will also develop new titles for Gree's upcoming worldwide mobile gaming platform. Funzio's staff is expected to be integrated into Gree's San Francisco development studio. Its senior staff have been named executives of Gree International as part of the acquisition. Outside of Japan, Gree is perhaps best known as the company that now owns mobile game network OpenFeint. Internationally the company claims to offer over 7,500 games to over 190 million players, numbers it expects to increase with its much-lauded international platform, expected to launch sometime this quarter. Gree recently revised its forecast for its fiscal year ending June, expecting a whopping $2.1-$2.5 billion in sales. By comparison, Facebook's fiscal year sales for 2011 were reported at $3.7 billion.
