Newsbrief: The Wall Street Journal [subscription required] reports that Google is venturing into the microconsole fray itself with its own Android-based video game console. Wall Street Journal sources suggest the move is motivated not simply by the recent launch of the Ouya and the upcoming GameStick but also on expectations that Apple will be introducing game support with an upcoming version of Apple TV. Google is also reportedly developing a replacement for the Nexus Q media device, as well as a potential Android-powered watch, according to the WSJ report. The devices are intended to be designed and marketed within Google, and more information is expected about them later this year.
