Gameloft enjoys big growth thanks to emerging countries, smartphones/tablets

Newsbrief: Gameloft's has reported a big jump in sales for the January-to-March period due to the sales of its games on smartphones and tablets, and in emerging countries. The Parisian publisher saw rapid growth from its freemium and paymium smartphone games, as it's shifted more of its games toward those business models in the last year. Gameloft intends to rely completely on those models in 2012, releasing all of its smartphone and tablet games as either freemium or paymium. During its first quarter in 2012, the company generated €44.8 million ($59 million) in sales, with 44 percent of that coming from the Asia-Pacific and Latin American territories. North America accounted for 30 percent of its revenues, while Europe, the Middle East, and Africa were responsible for 25 percent. Its first quarter sales grew 14 percent compared to the same period last year. Gameloft expects that as smartphone and tablet shipments around the world continue to grow, the company will be able to sustain growth for its revenues in the coming quarters.
