French game publisher Gameloft said it expects new venues such as TV games and Amazon's recently-launched AppStore to provide growth opportunities for the company in the coming years. In a recent Reuters interview, Gameloft CEO Michel Guillemot said Amazon's new AppStore is particularly friendly for game developers. "The Amazon ecosystem is controlled where we don't find too many pirated version of our games or malware games, so for the consumers, it will be a safer place to come and get applications," said the executive. Amazon's Android Appstore launched with over 900 games this week, including 400 that can be downloaded for free. A majority of the Appstore's paid game titles are available for $1.99 or less, with only one game selling for $10 or more. Publicly-traded Gameloft specializes in digitally-distributed games, and generates most of its revenue from the sale of mobile games. The company saw big boosts in recent years from sales on Apple's AppStore, with games including Dungeon Hunter, Hero of Sparta and Let's Golf. In February this year, Gameloft reported sales of $141 million, a 16 percent year-on-year rise thanks in part to strong performance on Apple's iOS App Store. While mobile is the company's main focus, it has also brought games to TVs through digital storefronts on consoles like Xbox Live Arcade. The company isn't abandoning the TV experience, but the company plans on adopting a new venue: internet-connected televisions. Gameloft CFO Alexandre de Rochefort also told Reuters that the company expects TV games to be a key revenue driver for the company beginning in 2012.
