GameFly is getting out of the digital distribution game

GameFly seems to be dropping its digital distribution business, as it has quietly sold off its GameFly Digital storefront to a Taiwanese company that sells cheap retro game emulators.
Newsbrief: GameFly, which built its business as a physical disc rental company for games, seems to be getting out of the digital distribution business, as it has quietly sold off its GameFly Digital storefront to Taiwanese company AtGames. Details on the deal are scarce, but a message posted to the GameFly Digital homepage suggests that GameFly plans to keep the storefront functional as it transfers operational control to AtGames. For its part, the Taiwanese company -- best known for selling cheap game emulator devices like the Atari Flashback 4 -- has added a new "Digital Download" button to its website that links to the GameFly Digital storefront. GameFly acquired the storefront from IGN in 2011 as part of an initiative to expand its scope beyond renting out physical games via mail. At the time it was known as Direct2Drive, though GameFly quickly rebranded it and expanded it with features like a standalone PC client and an unlimited play service.
