It’s been a busy few months for the game-focused voice and text chat app Discord. After raising $20 million in funding back in January, Discord developer Hammer & Chisel announced last night in a company blog post that over 11 million people have registered for the chat application, with a growth rate of over two million users a month. 

Speaking to Gamasutra, Hammer & Chisel CEO Jason Citron says that the number of registered users did closely correlate to the number of total active users, and that the company sees upwards of one million people online on a regular basis.  

Citron also shares that Hammer & Chisel has begun working closely with game developers like Nexon and Trion Worlds to help them integrate with players organizing communities in Discord chat rooms. He says that the company has helped some developers work directly with the Discord API, while others have sought assistance setting up an official community channel for their game. “Given my background building Fates Forever and OpenFeint I love the idea of working more closely with game developers as the community grows,” Citron says. 

As for the company's next steps, Citron says Hammer & Chisel will eventually be looking to sell cosmetic items on the platform, adopting some pricing models similar to popular chat apps like WeChat and LINE.
