Following layoffs, Zynga plans to shut down OMGPop website

OMGPop, first acquired by Zynga in March 2012, was summarily closed back in June 2013. Now, Zynga has announced the closure of OMGPop.com, as well as the withdrawal of OMGPop's titles from Facebook.
OMGPop, first acquired by Zynga for $180 million in March 2012, was summarily closed when the social game giant hemorrhaged more than 500 employees back in June 2013. Now, Zynga has announced the closure of OMGPop.com by the end of September, as well as the withdrawal of four of OMGPop's titles from Facebook within the next few weeks. The closures do not appear to affect the Draw Something franchise, which was the title on which Zynga initially premised its OMGPop acquisition. As for the dismissed OMGPop team, it's fair to assume they are taking the news in stride. "Most layoffs are sad... This was the opposite," an OMGPop employee related back in June. "Music was being played loudly, and people were ripping up Zynga hoodies and T-shirts... The sentiment felt positive."
