Fantastic Arcade, the indie games showcase spun off and run alongside Austin's genre film festival Fantastic Fest, is accepting submissions for titles that will be featured at the event and included in its competition. Launched last year, Fantastic Arcade is operated by Austin-based cinema chain Alamo Drafthouse and will return this September 22 to 29. The festival looks to "bring together artists and professionals who are telling stories and creating experiences in film, games and online entertainment simultaneously." The event exhibits a curated selection of both new releases and "important groundbreaking independent games from the last couple of years" for attendees to play. It also hosts panels with game developers, and recognizes outstanding indie titles with audience awards and a juried competition. Developers are invited to submit their original projects for consideration until August 1st. Fantastic Arcade's festival programmers will then review playable titles that make it to the second round based on their art, story, characters, gameplay, and "connection with the character of Fantastic Fest". Last year's selected Fantastic Arcade titles included Andy Schatz's Monaco, Mark Essen's Nidhogg, Amanita Design's Machinarium, Paolo Pedercini's Every Day the Same Dream, Florian Faller and Adrian Stutz's Feist, and two dozen other independent games.
