Facebook aims to make it easier for devs to port Unity games to its platform

Unity and Facebook are collaborating on a new way to streamline the process of publishing Unity games on Facebook -- and a new standalone, Steam-esque PC game client that FB is currently developing.

Unity and Facebook are making a show of strengthening their partnership today, announcing that they're working together to streamline the process of publishing Unity games on Facebook -- including a new standalone, Steam-like PC game platform that Facebook says is currently in development.

The upside of this push for more Unity games on Facebook is that Unity devs seeking to bring their games to the social network may soon find it less of a hassle to do so. Further details on Facebook's standalone PC game platform are scant; it appears to be an evolution of the downloadable Facebook Games Arcade client the social network experimented with earlier this year.

“Developers channel their talent and passion into creating amazing games, but development is only part of the challenge,” Unity VP Elliot Solomon stated in a press release about the partnership. “Integrating tools that provide effortless access to Facebook’s network is a key part of helping developers find the success they deserve.”

A closed alpha build of the new "Export to Facebook" feature in Unity 5.4 (and up) is currently being tested, and if you're curious to see how it works know that Unity devs can apply to participate in the alpha testing from now through the end of the month.
