Leading U.S. retailer GameStop has appointed Shane Kim, formerly Microsoft Game Studios vice president and overseer on franchises such as Halo and Gears of War, to its board of directors. Kim spent 15 years of his career with Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business division, where he helped drive strategic planning for Microsoft Games Studios. He oversaw a number of huge Microsoft gaming franchises, including Halo, Gears of War, Fable and Forza Motorsport. After retiring from the company last year, he went on to advise numerous technology and digital media companies, before taking on his current director role at GameStop. Dan DeMatteo, executive chairman of GameStop, noted, "We are very excited to have Shane join our board. His broad video game knowledge and business experience will bring valuable insight in supporting the advancement of GameStop's digital strategy." Earlier in the year, GameStop posted financial results for the first quarter of the 2011 fiscal year, noting a rise in both profits and revenue thanks in part to an increase in digital game sales.
