EA Sports' college football can go on, under a different contract

Following news that NCAA was ceasing its licensing agreement with EA Sports, the Collegiate Licensing Company has confirmed it will continue working with the publisher, extending its contract to 2017.
At least partly in a bid to ensure that college football EA Sports titles will not be going away any time soon, the Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) has confirmed today that it is extending its contract with EA Sports until 2017. According to a CLC representative speaking with Polygon, the contract extension will take effect in July 2014 and provide EA the rights to use "more than 150 colleges, conferences and bowl games" for its college football titles. The confirmation follows closely on the heels of an announcement that the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) would not be renewing its licensing agreement with EA Sports, due largely to a succession of lawsuits concerning unauthorized player likenesses. As most of the licensing for specific educational establishments and teams is handled by the CLC, this means very little is likely to change with respect to EA Sports' college football series, except for discontinuing the use of the NCAA logo and name.
