EA plans to shut down its Ultima mobile game this month

The free-to-play mobile multiplayer RPG Ultima Forever will no longer permit players to purchase premium currency as EA prepares to shut down its servers at the end of August.
Newsbrief: Electronic Arts has announced plans to shut down its mobile multiplayer RPG Ultima Forever at the end of August. The news comes courtesy of a brief message posted to the company forums yesterday that marks the online-only game's servers for shutdown on August 29, 2014 and details how the game will change in its final month (in-app purchases for premium currency will be disabled, for example.) No meaningful reason was given for the game's closure, though it's not totally surprising in light of the fact that EA shut down developer Mythic Entertainment just a few months ago. It's worth noting that this leaves the original Ultima Online as the last EA-operated Ultima game standing come September, since the publisher shut down the free-to-play browser game Lord of Ultima back in May.
