EA not convinced by the Switch, will gauge demand after 12 months

EA is biding its time when it comes to the Switch, and wants to wait until the system has been on shelves for a year before deciding whether to develop more titles.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, EA finance chief Blake Jorgensen explained the publisher must "fully understand what the demand is" before doubling down on the Switch.

As it stands, FIFA 18 is the first and only Switch title EA has developed, and it's unclear how well the stripped back version has been performing.

While EA might not have any more Switch titles in the development pipeline, the company intends to publish a Switch version of adventure game Fe through it's Originals program.

In terms of demand, the Switch has got off to a flying start compared to it's predecessor, the Wii U.

The hybrid console is already closing in on 8 million sales, and Nintendo expects to see that total rise to 14 million by the end of the financial year.

If that happens, the Switch will have surpassed the Wii U's lifetime sales total of 13.56 million units in just 12 months.
