John Schappert, chief operating officer at Electronic Arts, has left the company and taken up an executive post at Zynga, according to media reports. In a regulatory filing today, it was noted that Schappert's last day at the company was April 25. The industry veteran had served as EA's COO since 2009. According to a report by financial news site Reuters, Schappert is headed to social gaming giant Zynga, where he will take an executive post. It has not yet been confirmed which role Schappert will be filling. Zynga declined to comment on the report. Schappert's move to social network gaming giant Zynga comes as EA works to gain a foothold in the social and online space. EA is owner of Zynga rival and Pet Society developer Playfish, which the publisher acquired in a deal worth up to $400 million in 2009. Schappert is cofounder of Madden NFL developer Tiburon Entertainment. Following EA's acquisition of the studio, he served in several executive roles at the publishing giant before heading to Microsoft in 2007, then rejoining EA in July 2009.
