Chicago's own Iron Galaxy Studios, the developers of
Divekick and other projects, will continue to support and update
Killer Instinct in the wake of original developer Double Helix Games'
acquisition by Amazon.
The news comes courtesy of an
interview with Iron Galaxy CEO Dave Lang, conducted last week by Polygon, in which he details why Iron Galaxy took the job and alludes to what's involved with transferring responsibilities for updating and maintaining a published fighting game to a completely different studio.
"To get to now take [
Killer Instinct] over and start with this great base, and expand it and put new stuff on top of it, everyone in the company is super pumped up," Lang reportedly told Polygon. "We can't wait to show people what we're going to be doing down the road."
Iron Galaxy, which has offices in Chicago and Orlando, reportedly flew a team of developers out to Double Helix Games in Irvine, CA to spend a week learning how to work with the tools and techniques required to utilize the Hex engine, Double Helix Games' proprietary engine technology that powers
Killer Instinct.
Going forward, Iron Galaxy intends to keep the game running and continue shepherding it with regular updates, starting with a large patch next month that will add a new character -- Fulgore -- as well as new modes and multiplayer features.
