The folks behind the 2016 roguelike gun-'em-up Enter the Gungeon took to Twitter today to confirm that the game has sold over 1 million copies across PCs, PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.

That's a significant milestone for the game, especially when you consider that it's developer Dodge Roll's debut game. A year after its initial release on PC and PS4 last April the game was released on Xbox One, and a Switch version is on the horizon.

Speaking to Gamasutra last year, developer Dave Crooks noted that Enter the Gungeon was heavily influenced by the work of indie devs like Edmund McMillen (Binding of Isaac, Super Meat Boy), Vlambeer (Nuclear Throne) and Mossmouth (Spelunky). The name itself was inspired by a track on the soundtrack of Vlambeer's Gun Godz.

"I was listening to Doseone and Kozilek’s Gun Godz soundtrack, and the next day the word “gungeon” popped into my head," Crooks recalled. "I asked a buddy what about a game called 'Enter the Gungeon' and he just said: 'Yes. Now, what is it?'"
