Crytek dips toes into mobile with CryEngine 3-powered game

German developer and engine maker Crytek has revealed its first mobile game, physics-based puzzler Fibble – Flick 'n' Roll, which will release to iOS and Android devices in spring. This project is yet another departure for the developer, which is best known for its graphics-intensive console/PC first-person shooters like Crysis and Far Cry. It's lately experimented with projects like a free-to-play FPS with Warface, and a cloud-based gaming service with its Gface affiliate. "Going mobile is an incredibly exciting step for us as a game development company," says Crytek CEO and president Cevat Yerli. "This allows us to get back to our roots, experiment and focus our energy on creating great gameplay experiences while still keeping Crytek's high production values." Fibble is built on CryTek's CryEngine 3 and has some unspecified functionality connecting to the Gface social network (possibly powering the game's achievements and leaderboards). It's unclear if the company intends to eventually push CryEngine 3 as a mobile development platform. Crytek says it wants to make "a big impact in the field of mobile entertainment" with Fibble, and tap into a new generation of players who have not tried out a Crytek game in the past.
