Call of Duty: Black Ops III launched last Friday, and the game has already climbed to the top of the UK retail sales charts, beating Microsoft's Halo 5 and EA's Need for Speed in the process.

A sales breakdown provided by Chart-Track has revealed that Xbox One and PS4 disc versions of the game accounted for 91 percent of all Black Ops III sales at retail. By contrast, last year's release Advanced Warfare only attributed 68 percent of its sales to current-gen platforms.

Making those figures interesting is the fact that Activision recently revealed it would be cutting the single-player campaign from Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game, meaning those without access to current-gen hardware would only get their hands on zombies and the game's multiplayer mode.

It was a first for the franchise, with Activision explaining that only the Xbox One and PS4 could cope with the "ambitious scope" of the single-player campaign.
