BioWare scribe David Gaider joins Baldur's Gate dev Beamdog as creative director

The company best known for enhanced remakes of BioWare games now appears poised to leap into more original products, with the offical blog saying Gaider will "direct new creative endeavors."

Longtime BioWare writer David Gaider has joined Beamdog, the studio responsible for enhanced versions of some of the developer's most popular classic titles, as the company's new creative director. Gaider announced his departure from BioWare last month, after 17 years at the studio.

Beamdog has so far mostly released "Enhanced Edition" rereleases of classic PC RPGs: BioWare's Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II, and Black Isle's Icewind Dale. Its current project is an original Baldur's Gate game -- Siege of Dragonspear.

"David will lead the writing team and direct new creative endeavors for the company," reads a post on Beamdog's official blog. This presages potential more original projects under Gaider's watch: "Originally we advertised for the position of senior writer, but ... we upgraded the role."

Beamdog's work on Baldur's Gate has been extensive, as you'll learn if you read this postmortem of Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition.
