The UK's British Academy of Film and Television Arts has announced the launch of a U.S. branch for its Video Games strand later this week, as it looks to celebrate the video games industry in the U.S.
BAFTA is set to form a video games committee in Los Angeles, which will represent the academy's activities in America and work alongside its London, UK-based committee.
The launch will also be marked by a new scheme called BAFTA: A Life in Pixels on June 5, that will see
The Sims creator Will Wright kicking off a series of events aimed at "developing excellence in video games by sharing the insights of some of the best minds in the industry."
BAFTA said that Wright's "commitment to creativity and excellence in game design" make him the perfect opening industry veteran for the event.
Wright was inducted into the BAFTA Fellowship back in 2007, and formally recognized at the awards. He was the first representative from the video games industry to be inducted.
