According to the analytics firm DeltaDNA, women tend to be more invested in mobile gaming than men thanks to both an interest in higher-end devices and higher in-game spending habits.
While the data only pulls from games tracked by DeltaDNA's tech, the resulting numbers provide game developers with potentially useful insight into mobile game spending habits and.
For example, the firm found that 4.5 percent of women spend money within mobile games, compared to 3.3 percent of men. By DeltaDNA's math, this means female players are 44 percent more valuable than their male counterparts and that female players have an average value of $1.57 each while male players are worth $1.08.
Of the four genres tracked by DeltaDNA, women make up the majority of players for puzzle and casino titles at 76 percent and 51 percent respectively. In action and strategy, women only account for 23 and 26 percent of players. The firm argues that mobile game developers and publishers can benefit from paying attention to data like this when plotting out new mobile games.
"This has powerful implications for mobile game publishers – a female-focused game simply has a much greater chance of being profitable than a male-focused one," argues the firm. "Given that women tend to like puzzle and casino games that are also much less expensive to produce and maintain the economics of making male-focused action and strategy games are hard to justify."
