The University of Abertay in Dundee, Scotland has invested £225,000 ($355,118) in nine video game studios as part of its Abertay Prototype Fund.
The fund was set up to help start-up and smaller developers that required capital to cover staff costs for the development of new intellectual property.
The first round of funding
took place earlier this year, and saw six UK-based companies receive £25,000 ($39,458) each to help kickstart development.
This second round of funding has now seen nine further companies awarded £25,000 in funding each, including studios such as Adamant Studios, Atomicom and Proper Games.
Paul Durrant, director of business development at Abertay University, explained, "We're delighted to award £225,000 from the Abertay University Prototype Fund to nine very promising up-and-coming companies."
"By investing directly in these businesses, Abertay University is giving them the opportunity to develop a prototype - either to take to market, or to secure additional private investment."
Applications for a third round of funding are now open, and studios can apply at
the official website until December 14.
