2K China shuttered after Take-Two cancels Borderlands Online

Less than a year after it announced the development of F2P Borderlands Online, 2K Games owner Take-Two Interactive has cancelled the project and shut down developer 2K China.

Less than a year after it announced Borderlands Online, a free-to-play game developed in partnership with Chinese publisher Shanda, 2K Games owner Take-Two Interactive has cancelled the project and shut down developer 2K China.

"We determined that the additional time required to finish current projects at the studio, particularly Borderlands Online, would not yield a favorable return on investment," reads a statement from Take-Two given to GamesIndustry.biz, which reports that roughly 150 people were employed by the studio at the time of its closure. "We are working with affected staff to identify other opportunities within the company where possible."

It's slightly surprising news in light of the fact that Take-Two reported rosy financials earlier this week, and the company continues to maintain offices in China. As always, if you or someone you know was affected by this decision you can email Gamasutra to tell your story confidentially.
