Activision has announced that more than two million users have signed up for the
Call of Duty Elite beta since sign-ups went live less than two weeks ago.
Activision's Dan Amrich
revealed the figure on his One of Swords blog, and told
Call of Duty players, "don’t be discouraged by the big number, thinking you shouldn’t bother because they already have enough people — two million volunteers among 30 million
Call of Duty players is a small amount. More would be even better."
Amrich also explained
in a separate post how the beta for
Call of Duty Elite will influence the final service: "The team is looking for how the community uses it and what they like and don’t like, as well as how the service handles the traffic of the
COD community."
The
Call of Duty Elite service, managed by Activision's Beachhead studio, offers features such as stat tracking, video sharing, and enhanced matchmaking to all registered users, and those who pay a monthly fee will gain access to downloadable content and other additional content.
The
Call of Duty Elite beta will begin on July 14 and will support Call of Duty: Black Ops. The service will officially launch alongside
Modern Warfare 3 this November.
