Tomb Raider turns it around: Reboot verging on 6 million sales

Lara Croft's reboot is about to cross the 6 million unit threshold with help of next-gen versions, Square Enix's head of product development reveals.
Newsbrief: Today, Square Enix head of product development Darrell Gallagher announced via blog post that Tomb Raider is on track to hit 6 million units sold this March, and is "on course to become" the best-selling game in the storied franchise. The game, he writes, swung to profitability last year and has now "exceeded profit expectations and continues to make significant contributions to our overall financial performance" one year on from its initial release. The publisher recently launched next-generation versions of the game for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, which have no doubt bolstered its sales in the near term. This is significant because the company called the game's initial performance "weak," listing it as a factor in the ouster of president and CEO Yoichi Wada. In the last year, things have clearly turned around for Lara Croft, whose title has popped up on many best-end lists, a fact Gallagher notes in his post.
