Oxenfree devs release Telltale-published Mr. Robot game on mobile

The developers of Oxenfree have made an interactive fiction game set in the world of Mr. Robot that Telltale is publishing on mobile devices.

Telltale’s publishing initiative continues to expand, this time in a new licensing arrangement that involves Night School Studios, the independent developers behind the game Oxenfree. Together, they've released a mobile game based on the USA television show Mr. Robot.

Telltale quietly released the game today, titled Mr. Robot:1.51exfiltrati0n.ipa on iOS, and Mr. Robot:1.51exfiltrati0n.apk on Android. It’s an interactive fiction game that takes place during the show's first season, and is designed to mimic a phone that belongs to a member of the fictional group fsociety.

The partnership with Night School Studios isn’t entirely a surprise, as creative director Adam Hines was previously a writer on Telltale's Tales from the Borderlands. It’s interesting however, to see Telltale extend its usual licensing arrangements to involve work with an outside studio.

This is also the first time a Telltale-published game seems to be a promotional effort for the original IP rather than its own standalone title. Telltale and Night School Studios have done minimal marketing for the game, posting only a few teasers on Twitter before today’s launch.

If you’re curious to see how the minds behind Oxenfree tackle an entirely different genre of narrative game design, you can download the game on both iOS and Android.
