The finalists for the upcoming Canadian Videogame Awards have been announced, with BioWare’s
Mass Effect 2 and Ubisoft’s
Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood nominated for seven awards each.
The awards show, due to be held in Vancouver on May 18 at the Centre for the Performing Arts, aims to celebrate Canada's position as the third largest developer of video games in the world. All of the nominated games were created in Canada.
Over 70 nominations were made over 31 different submissions, with the likes of
Dead Rising 2,
FIFA 11 and
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction joining the aforementioned
Mass Effect 2 and
Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood as nominees.
Categories include Best Console Game, Best Downloadable Game and Best Game Design. Members of the public can visit
the CVA site between now and the show, and vote for their favourite Canadian Game of the Year.
Co-founder of the award show Victor Lucas said, "Last year's event was a big success and people had a wonderful time, but more importantly, incredible Canadian-made video games and their creators were honored."
"So many video games developed in our country over the last year were phenomenal; I think we're going to see a lot of great surprises this year! It's a great privilege to be able to show the video game community how important it is to this country."
