The latest entry in EA's popular
Madden NFL series has sold 1.4 million units on consoles in its first week of availability, the publisher reports, up 10 percent from the same point after last year's version.
Those retail sales are supplemented by digital sales of over 200,000
Madden Ultimate Team card and coin packs through September 5, as well as chart-topping performance for the Android and iOS versions of the game.
Overall, gross digital revenue associated with the latest
Madden has increased 78 percent from the same point after last year's release, EA said.
Madden 12 players have logged more than 5.4 million online games since the title's August 30 release, EA said. In addition, players that subscribed to
EA Sports' newly launched Season Ticket service logged more than 66,000 hours of early access play on a digital version of the game between August 26 and the game's retail release.
This year's
Madden release was
delayed from the franchise's usual mid-August release window thanks to the threat of an NFL lockout, a move that will
likely have a significant impact on NPD results for the month.
