Job Simulator dev nets $5M in funding to keep developing for VR

Owlchemy Labs, that Austin-based studio best known for creating Snuggle Truck and Job Simulator, has now raised $5 million from investors to continue developing virtual reality experiences.

Owlchemy Labs, that Austin-based studio best known for creating Snuggle Truck and Job Simulator, has now raised $5 million from investors like Qualcomm, HTC and Colopl Next to continue developing virtual reality experiences.

It's interesting to see Owlchemy successfully switch focus from mobile/PC to VR, and notable that the studio has been able to raise significant funding for further VR work based (presumably) on its work creating VR games like Job Simulator and its plans to create an Adult Swim-published VR game based on the Rick and Morty television show.

"I'll never forget the moment that Devin opened the Oculus Kickstarter page and pulled me over to tell me that this was the beginning of something huge -- that most people in the world didn't yet understand or see the significance of," reads a post on the Owlchemy blog. "This investment allows us to continue to create and explore VR more deeply with a stronger team."

Owlchemy has already done much to explore the landscape of post-Oculus VR development, having released a game that exemplifies (via burrito, pictured above) some excellent VR design fundamentals, then struggled to sort out how best to price it in a VR game industry that's still very much in flux.
