Game Developer Magazine Donates Archive To The National Museum of Play

Gamasutra sister-publication Game Developer magazine has donated nearly its entire catalog to New York's National Museum of Play in an effort to chronicle game development knowledge for future generations.
In an effort to help New York's National Museum of Play chronicle various facets of video game history, Gamasutra sister-publication Game Developer magazine has donated a near-complete archive of its entire run to the museum's International Center for the History of Electronic Games (ICHEG). This division of the museum, opened in 2009, is already home to over 25,000 video and electronic games, including over 1,000 PC games. ICHEG also hosts over 100 issues of Computer Gaming World magazine dating back to 1982, which were recently donated by Gamasutra contributing editor Frank Cifaldi, who previously worked at 1up.com. In addition to the robust backlog of Game Developer issues, the museum will also receive a subscription to the publication moving forward, ensuring that any future editions of the magazine will make their way into the collection. Rochester's National Museum of Play celebrates all types of play, from toys and dolls to board games. The museum's ICHEG division also boasts a large archive of video game design documents and papers, including those from the collections of Odyssey creator Ralph Baer and M.U.L.E. creator Dani Bunten Individuals interested in donating historical artifacts or collections to the museum can contact the International Center for the History of Electronic Games and its director Jon-Paul Dyson through the organization's official website.
