As a surprise announcement coinciding with this year's PAX Prime,
Breath of Death VII and
Cthulhu Saves the World developer Zeboyd games announced that it will develop the third entry in the once-cancelled
Penny Arcade Adventures series.
Based on a teaser image revealed at the Seattle-based convention, the new game will use a pixel-based art style akin to Zeboyd's previous titles.
Penny Arcade first announced
Penny Arcade Adventures: On The Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness as a four-part episodic series in 2006, with
DeathSpank developer Hothead Games taking the helm of the project. Following the release of the second game, however,
Penny Arcade announced that "there won't be an Episode 3."
Soon after acknowledging the game's cancellation, Penny Arcade's Jerry "Tycho" Holkins began publishing a
written version of the series' conclusion on the Penny Arcade website. Zeboyd has not confirmed whether the newly-announced title will follow this same story or diverge in a new direction.
Zeboyd did not confirm which platforms the game will launch on, though the game's teaser poster confirms that the studio plans to release the title in 2012.
