Last month the 30th edition of the Game Developers Conference took place, and to honor the special occasion GDC organizers gathered a coterie of game industry luminaries to speak about how the art and business of making games had changed in the past 30 years.
The idea was to offer attendees a look back at significant trends in our industry through the eyes of the people who helped shape them, from the dawn of the computer game industry and the age of adventure games through to the rise of home consoles, the heyday of MMORPGs and the advent of smartphones, tablets and virtual reality.
It was a standout session that featured thoughtful insight and advice from luminaries like Computer Game Developers Conference founder Chris Crawford, Quest for Glory co-creator Lori Cole, former Sony and Microsoft exec Phil Harrison, Fruit Ninja designer Luke Muscat and Oculus VR founder Palmer Luckey.
