Video: Capturing the cinematic dialogue of Splinter Cell: Blacklist

At GDC 2014, Ubisoft Toronto's Richie Nieto delivers a step-by-step walkthrough of the pipeline for producing dialogue for cinematics in the big-budget stealth action game Splinter Cell: Blacklist.

What does it take to record actors' performances and incorporate that audio into your game's cinematic sequences in a way that sounds authentic?

At GDC 2014, Ubisoft Toronto's Richie Nieto showcased (via a step-by-step walkthrough of the pipeline) the steps he and his team took to produce the dialogue for cinematics in the big-budget stealth action game Splinter Cell: Blacklist.

It was a thorough talk about an under-discussed topic, as Nieto spoke to various game production phases as they pertained to the audio department and illustrated some technical decisions made for this project that might typically be labeled as unorthodox in the video game industry.

It's well worth watching if you want to know more about the voice of Sam Fisher and other Blacklist characters, and you can now watch the whole thing for free via the official GDC YouTube channel.
