As a way of encouraging high school students to pursue a job in the video game industry, Valve launched an initiative called Pipeline over the weekend, with the aim to provide an insight into how best to start out. The Pipeline program will follow a group of high school interns at Valve, who will attempt to encourage teenagers who are considering a career in video game development, through answering questions and providing a more direct way to engage with Valve as a company. Valve admits that it "has been a very good place for very experienced videogame developers, and not so good at teaching people straight out of school." Hence, Pipeline is meant as an experiment, "to see if we can take a group of high school students with minimal work experience and train them in the skills and methods necessary to be successful at a company like Valve." More information will apparently be released within the next month or so. You can see all the currently available information on the official website.
